These are my favorite artworks from the semester, I took them awhile ago and recently went in and edited them because I realized how much I liked these photos.

Weekly Challenge 8?
I embraced the weather by staying indoors and decorating the tree with my family. And then I took pictures of it. (I'm still not sure which is my favorite so I am uploading all three)

Concentration Update
I have been working on backgrounds this week trying to figure out what to do to make them not floating and such. But then I kind of got a little fed up so I haven't done backgrounds for a the new sketches, I just added a bit of a shadow. (However some of the feet got cut off so I will fix that at some point)

Concentration
My central idea for my concentration is modernizing 1920's fashion in a spring fashion line. These designs are inspired by the flapper scene during that time period. The concentration develops through day looks, to night looks, and then ends with runway looks. I used colored pencils and markers for the designs, and digitally rendered the backgrounds. Fashion is a huge part of today's society, and I believe that the 20's was an incredible turning point for women's fashion. The flapper became a strong, independent women and I find that really important through the history of fashion. These looks are designed for the modern independent woman inspired by the 20's era.

Silk Printing
I think for my silk painting I would get a 4, because of
4.B Some clear decision making and intention are evident
4.C The composition of the works demonstrates some imaginative ideas and purposeful
manipulation of the elements and principles of design.

4.G With the apparent appropriation of published or photographic sources or the work of other
artists, the student’s “voice” is discernible; the images have been manipulated to express
the student’s individual ideas.
I really enjoyed silk printing! It was a lot of fun to manipulate the colors to blend together. I do wish I photographed it better though!

Boulder photography
This is a more photo pure photo from the field trip, I really loved the blue and the magenta colors of the building. It has a thick white border on it, but you can't see it with the white background of the blog..

Weekly Challenge 5
This is a cupcake I made! I love baking and decided to do the food art challenge. This is a butterbeer flavored cupcake, and it's delicious. I tried to make this photo seem really autumny and homey because that is what think of when I bake.

Narrative Project
For my narrative project I wanted to make an artwork that revolves around loss of identity in pop culture. The idea was that pop culture can be contradicting, they may tell people to be unique and creative when they themselves may not be.

Weekly Challenge 4
For this challenge I got portraiture! I was really excited for this challenge because I got to take pictures with a new model (thank you Toni <3). I worked with a plain background and just worked with the lighting to take these pictures. We both had a lot of fun with this!

20 Layers
For my project, I wanted to work with a body part that wouldn't be used or thought of for this project, so I decided to work with an ear. I then thought of how to portray sounds in this artwork, and to challenge myself I decided to try to use a pop art style.
Oh, and the symbols in the speech bubble aren't necessarily supposed to be a curse word, it is just to show whatever the person said made a big impact to the person who is listening. It's up to interpretation on what they were saying.

Weekly Challenge 2
For this weekly challenge I chose the conflicting emotions challenge.
For the emotions I wanted to create a story of feeling trapped and then breaking free from that. For the first image I made it really dark to portray the feeling of unhappiness and constrained within everything you might feel you have to do; feeling stressed of all that is going on around you. The second image is more free and lighthearted, the feeling of wanderlust and wanting to travel. I made this image more fantasy-like, and dreamy to create those feelings. I also worked with over and under exposed images to create that tension of conflicting emotions in this artwork.

Weekly Challenge 1
For this weekly challenge I decided to imitate the style of artist that inspired me. I was just researching artists and I came across Jack Whitten. He is a abstract artist and I really loved his artwork, specifically one called April's Shark, which can be found here. I haven't ever worked abstractly for any artwork so I decided to try his style of horizontal brushstrokes. I also wanted some sort of subject so I decided to paint a woman's face that is blurred by the brushstrokes. It is difficult to see the detail in the photograph, but I also carved out little strokes in the paint of the background meant to give the appearance of her hair.
Summer Work
Over the summer I took classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in these classes I created a lot of artwork, both of these pieces are from the classes.
The first piece is a mini fashion line, the first is a day look, the second is a night look, and the final is a runway look. We were asked to design looks that would be part of a real designer line. I chose Chanel, as shown in the various images I chose for my mood board. These images were picked to inspire me to create a cohesive line. I also attached the swatches of fabric on the top, and used all of them in my designs.
The second piece is a beauty advert of sorts. The project was to show juxtaposition in an advertisement; and I added flowers on the woman's head to show that. I added the slogan as well to show that it was a beauty advertisement and I wanted it to be simple and bold.
Both of the pieces of artwork use marker rendering and colored pencils.
